LASIK Nomograms

Glossary:  The Stahl Formula is an advanced nomogram that corrects the laser setting for each individual patient.  Nomograms can correct for differences in patients (age and gender), differences in technique (LASIK Vs PRK), and differences in local conditions (humidity and laser calibration).

    One of the most critical factors that can affect your outcome after LASIK surgery is the nomogram that the surgeon uses. A nomogram is a unique group of detailed settings that is programmed into the laser for each patient. Some centers don’t use a nomogram at all. But the best results are achieved when your treatment is tailored for each person based on their age, gender, prescription, and dozens of other factors. And the very best nomograms come from years of experience, tens of thousands of patients, and honestly a lot of hard work. 

     Using this advanced technology, years of experience, and tracking the results of thousands of patients to fine tune results for each person based on their unique eyes. Dr. Stahl is achieving results among the top in the nation.  With the Stahl Formula nomogram  99.2% or patients are 20/20 or better, and 83% are better than 20/20!*  For many patients, this is better than they have ever seen with glasses or contacts, often with better night vision as well.

So how do we create our world class nomograms?

1. First, we control the room climate (temperature and humidity), as well as corneal hydration to keep them constant.

2. Then we use the very latest wavefront technology to precisely measure each person and carefully track their results after surgery.

3. Using computer modeling to correct for variables such as gender, age, difference between wavefront measurements and conventional refraction, effect of higher order aberration correction on lower order aberrations (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism), and many other variables we create a "nomogram".

4. To implement the nomogram, we use software custom designed by Dr. Brian Stahl to customize each patients treatment for them individually.

5. The nomogram is only as good as the laser used to deliver it, and we use only the best with our LADARVision 4000 laser using CustomVision™  technology.

6. Then we do it all over, and over, and over, each successive nomogram becoming more accurate than the first.  We never stop improving our results.
