What is Dysport?

Dysport, also known as abobotulinumtoxinA, is a prescription neuromodulator. It works by temporarily reducing the muscle activity responsible for certain expression lines and wrinkles.

Dysport is FDA-approved for the temporary improvement of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows in adults under age 65.

Dr. Gillis may also recommend Dysport for other commonly treated facial areas when medically appropriate. Treatment of areas other than the frown lines may be considered off-label use.

Benefits of Cosmetic Dysport

Dysport can help soften lines caused by repeated movements such as frowning, squinting, smiling, or raising the eyebrows.

Treatment is customized to help smooth targeted areas while maintaining natural facial expression and movement.

The injection process generally takes only a few minutes and requires little to no downtime.

Many patients begin noticing improvement within several days, with results continuing to develop over approximately two weeks.

Results are temporary, allowing future treatments to be adjusted based on your response, preferences, and changing aesthetic goals.

Reducing repeated muscle movement may help prevent certain expression lines from becoming deeper and more noticeable over time.

Common Dysport Treatment Areas

Every patient requires a different number of units. Your recommended dose will depend on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, treatment goals, previous injectable treatments, and the number of areas being addressed. The following ranges are general planning estimates—not guaranteed treatment doses.

These ranges are provided to help patients understand possible pricing. They should not be used to select or request a specific medical dose. Dr. Gillis will determine the appropriate treatment areas and number of units after evaluating your facial movement and discussing your desired result.

Dysport units are unique to Dysport and cannot be directly compared with or converted to units of Botox® or another botulinum toxin product.

What to Expect During Your Appointment

Your appointment will begin with a consultation with Dr. Gillis. You will discuss:

  • The areas you would like to improve
  • Your desired level of movement and smoothing
  • Previous injectable treatments
  • Current medications and medical conditions
  • Allergies and any history of reactions to injectable treatments
  • Whether Dysport is an appropriate option for you

Dr. Gillis will evaluate your facial anatomy and muscle movement before creating a personalized treatment plan. A series of small injections will then be placed into the selected muscles. Most patients can return to their usual daily activities shortly after treatment. You will receive specific aftercare instructions before leaving the office.

When Will I See Results?

Some patients begin noticing a change within a few days. The full result may take approximately two weeks to develop.

The effects of Dysport are temporary and may last up to four months, although individual results vary. Factors such as metabolism, muscle strength, treatment area, dose, and previous treatments can affect how quickly results appear and how long they last.

To maintain your results, repeat treatments may be recommended once movement and expression lines begin to return.

Dysport FAQ

A properly planned treatment should not make you look unnatural or expressionless.

Dr. Gillis will customize your treatment based on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, and desired result. Some patients prefer significant smoothing, while others want to preserve more natural movement. Your preferences will be discussed before treatment.

Although natural-looking results are the goal, no specific result can be guaranteed.

Dysport is a medical treatment and may cause side effects. Common or temporary effects may include:

  • Redness, tenderness, swelling, or bruising at the injection site
  • Headache
  • Temporary discomfort
  • Nose or throat irritation
  • Mild asymmetry
  • Eyelid or eyebrow drooping
  • Dryness, tearing, or changes around the eyes
  • An undesired change in facial expression
  • Temporary weakness in nearby muscles
  • An unsatisfactory or uneven cosmetic result

Some side effects may require time to resolve because Dysport cannot be immediately reversed after it has been injected.

Rarely, the effects of botulinum toxin may spread beyond the injection area and cause serious symptoms, including generalized muscle weakness, double or blurred vision, drooping eyelids, difficulty speaking, loss of bladder control, or difficulty swallowing or breathing. These symptoms may occur hours, days, or weeks after treatment and require immediate medical attention.

Contact the office with concerns following treatment. Seek emergency medical care immediately for difficulty breathing, swallowing, or speaking.

You should not receive Dysport if you:

  • Are allergic to Dysport, any botulinum toxin product, or any ingredient in Dysport
  • Have an allergy to cow’s milk protein
  • Have an infection at a proposed injection site

Tell Dr. Gillis before treatment if you:

  • Are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
  • Have a neuromuscular condition
  • Have difficulty swallowing or breathing
  • Have weakness in the facial muscles
  • Have experienced side effects from another botulinum toxin treatment
  • Have had facial surgery or plan to undergo surgery
  • Take blood thinners, muscle relaxants, injectable antibiotics, or other medications
  • Have received Dysport or another botulinum toxin product within the previous four months

A medical consultation is required to determine whether treatment is appropriate for you.

Our Dysport Treatments Are Priced at $5 Per Unit

Your total treatment cost is based on the number of units administered. For example:

  • 40 units: $200
  • 50 units: $250

  • 100 units: $500

You will receive a personalized treatment recommendation and estimated total cost before injections are performed. Cosmetic Dysport is an elective treatment and is not billed to medical insurance.

Individual results vary. Dysport is a prescription treatment, and consultation does not guarantee that you are an appropriate candidate. Some cosmetic treatment areas described on this page may involve off-label use. The number of units and final treatment cost will be determined during your appointment.
